Recently upgraded from 6600GT to X1950Pro AGP (with new PSU)

Performane on games like Comp of Heroes = Poor.

Think it is my CPU holding things back.

Can anyone recommend decent Motherboard (oc potential) for AGP that will take a more modern CPU (Core2duo)

(Did not want to spend too much, as the x1950Pro was supposed to be a stop gap before full upgarde to Vista, DX10 etc.)

System:
AMD XP2600+
1.5G Memory (DDR)
X1950Pro AGP 512mb
M/board GA7VM400M

would be tempted to get something like the Asrock 775Dual-VSTA

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?M ... VSTA&s=775

features:

# 1 x PCI Express Graphics slot
# 1 x AGP 8X slot

so theres the potential for a pcie card when you come to upgrade to dx10

pair that with an E4300 and you should be sorted - even supports DDR memory as well as DDRII

Yes a dual vsta will be fine for you, along with a E4300 cpu
should you wish to overclock it,the Asrock will see you to 300 fsb.Anything
past that will require mods to the board.

Thanks guys

That's the board I have been reading about.

Seems to be only one about that caters for agp, ddr and dual core etc.

I should have bypassed the x1950pro route and held off for a bit, then upgrade to something more worthwhile.

not to worry - the asrock board should be good and with the 4300 you should have a fair amount of potential, definately a bit of an upgrade from your 2600 :D

only thing im not sure about is the memory - you say you have 1.5gb, is that 3 x 512mb or 1gb + 512mb?

just ask because im not sure if the board will support modules of different sizes, and it only has 2 banks

although in the worse case scenario you'll just have to drop to 1gb till you go ahead with the big upgrade or can afford 2gb of ddr2
