The cheapest sub note comes in at around £150 with the most expensive at almost £400, a budget sub note in my opinion should cost no more than £250 which would enter the realms of laptops.

The cheapest subnote is the Asus eeepc 2G at £150, I've used one for a few hours and I'm quite impressed, the biggest down side is the small keyboard, I can't touch type a page in a word processor without getting frustrated with the constant spelling mistakes, the only way to get past this is to peck at the keyboard with two fingers, the second down point is the battery which lasts around 2+ hours, it couldn't last a train ride from London to Plymouth without needing to be plugged in, fortunately the train had mains sockets. 900 series eeepcs have a larger keyboard and screen, these start at £230, optionally the 900 series and 701 models can be purchased with 5200 mAh batteries which will last over 3 hours.

I haven't used any other sub notes but reviews of Acer Aspire Ones seem to be favorable. The cheapest model goes for £220, I'd prefer this over the equivalent eeepc for it's larger keyboard.

A mate of mine recently bought an Advent 4211

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/219404

Had a quick go on it and it seems to be a nice size, use an eeepc in college and the keyboard size is just annoying

specs are fairly good too

EDIT: just noticed it's what laptop's editor's choice
