I am currently running a E7200 @ 3.10GHz stable on a Asus P5E3 (X38) motherboard at 40 degrees core temp (full system spec below:)
After reading in a post that 'excessive voltage can shorten the life of a component or even cause failure' I am a bit worried that I might be running my voltages to high. I am new to overclocking and wondered if anyone could check my settings out and let me know if something doesn't look right?
The post also mentioned that 'PCI Clock Synchronization should be set to 33.33 MHz' - but I can't find this setting in my BIOS anywhere!?

Stock CPU settings: 2.53GHz - 1066FSB - 9.5 Multiplier
Stock RAM settings: 1333 MHz - 9-9-9-24

On a separate issue, when playing Team Fortress 2 or the Left 4 Dead demo, I am getting a lot of glitching in the background. Strangely, I can play Crysis Warhead on maximum settings though and with no issues at all! I've downloaded the latest ATI drivers (8.11) but I wondered if this might be a side effect of the overclocking?
My GPU card runs very hot at 89 degrees! But I think this is normal for a HD 4870 X2.

The core voltage for the cpu is the only one that can substantially shorten cpu's life and 1.35v (ish) is well within the safe limit's. I believe the recommended max for a 45nm cpu is 1.45v.

Overclocking can shorten a cpu's life BUT in reality a cpu's actual life span is far greater than its useful lifespan i.e. it will work under normal use for 10+ years, how many people ACTUALLY use a pc for that long? Overclocking can actually extend a cpu's usefull lifespan if it starts to struggle ;)

Welcome to the forums :)

Voltages look fine, go no further than 1.45v on the CPU.

Modern chipsets have done away with the 33MHz PCI lock, but now you've got to make sure your PCI-E frequency is locked at 100MHz (which you've done).

The DRAM Frequency is too low, set the FSB Strap to Northbridge to auto and increase the DRAM frequency to what ever spec your RAM is rated at, i.e. 1333MHz. You may also want to change the FSB frequency to 333MHz if you can so the RAM ratio is exactly at 1:4.

HD 4870 X2s do get that hot, make sure your case is well ventilated where the card is located.

I will give those settings a go tonight.

After manually increasing the GPU fan speed to 40% I've already noticed a drop in temperature!
