If you are wanting to use media center, i would have Vista Home Prem, because Basic does not include the "Media Center"

I would be tempted by a bigger hard drive if you intend to make a lot of recordings. haven't had time to read over the complete spec yet. I'd be a bit tempted by a blueray drive in that setup as they are only £70 ish atm.

The newer core2duo's overclock well and with fairly little tweaking involved.

I would look at the onboard graphics that support HD decode - that might mean you'll have to use an AMD but it would be worth it IMO. Also the newer X2 cores are low power. As HD is the most processor intensive thing you'll probably do on a media center, having a little less CPU power doesn't matter if it means offloading HD decode/encode.

There's also a recent thread on the new Atom based motherboards (search tool is your friend) which look good for a media PC.

Guys how (providing he can afford it) about say 200gb main drive and 1Tb media storage drive? And yes the new Atom cpu's seem to be doing rather well. 8)
