I have finally decided to upgrade from my 19" CRT. I started reading reviews of various different TFTs and am now quite confused. My impression was that a lot the things that caused reviewers to mark a monitor down are things that wouldn't bother me. For instance, they often talk about viewing angle, but I sit directly in front of my monitor so why would I care?

I use my monitor for games, the internet and games. I don't watch movies on it. As mentioned I sit directly in front of it. So what should I look for in a monitor? I would prefer a 22" monitor as it would be larger than a 19" and still fairly cheap, but all the reviews seem to dislike them. Then again, I don't think a lot of the reviews are relevant to me because they whine about HDMI and don't mention ghosting in UT2004.

Thanks for any help.

22" and 20" Widescreen TFTs are very popular here, I hear Samsung have nice 20" and 22" monitors.

The number one thing to look for in a monitor is picture quality, this can only be judged from reviews because specification means so little now it's generally ignored when gamers shop for TFTs nowadays. I don't know of any good monitor reviews but I'm sure someone else can lead you to some.

TFT ghosting has mostly been ironed out on modern TFTs which is probably why reviews don't really cover it anymore, it's just the old ones which have higher response and refresh rates which can cause it.

Remember a 22" is a stretched 20", no gain in pixels, just bigger pixels. If you want higher res than 1680x1050 your gonna have to look at 24" panels.

It also depends on how close you sit to your screen and what your eyes are like to if you want more dots/sq.inch, or just a bigger screen.

Also there's quite a price jump from 22" to 24".
