well in that case, lets say £1200, big is beautiful and all :D

asus p5b deluxe motherboard - £130
e6300 - £125
2gb geil ultra low latency pc6400 - £160 (special offer)
320b seagate barracuda hard drive - £68
550w akasa powerplus psu - £72
akasa elipse case - £80
scythe infinity cpu cooler - £30

that alone is £665 not inc postage but inc VAT

a 19" tft widescreen or not might cost say £140 for a good one

that would leave you with ~£400 for a graphics card. you can of course cut down on xyz to improve abc so its really upo you :)

would be looking at something along the lines of this:

overbudget a bit :( but if you drop the memory for something cheaper, that'll knock up to £80 off it, then theres the powersupply, this partitcular retailer doesn't stock the 600w one, but that can be had for about £10 less

EDIT: damn, forgot the cooler :( that'll add about £30-40

bah, hugh beat me to it, and tbh, his one is a lot nicer on your wallet :D

although if you aren't looking to overclock, an E6600 may be a better idea

hughlle,

I currently have a 17" 8ms TFT (standard), if you were me, would you upgrade the cpu to 6400/6600 and keep the tft i have now until a later time when i buy a new one, or go with hte 6300 and buy a new tft?

Just as a side not, as im a novice, i wouldnt know where to start on how to overclock any componant, just incase that helps your decision.

i would get the new tft and use the 6300...

Frankly your will notice the bigger and better screen with bigger and better res one hell of a lot more than you are going to notice the clock speed of the cpu.

it was crazy exspensive everywhere, in fact all good 2gb sets were crazy expensive so i bought it from microdirect but the offer has since ended and the current 2gb ddr2 offer is fo some geil value for £140 which is quite a good price

only rason i hate going into shops is because they lie to you about good stuff and rip you off an arm and both legs

personally i enjoy going into pc world, enquiring about whether this motherboard supports pci-e and then asking the something about voltages and watching them squirm :D
