I would like to know the suitable settings for overclocking my memory and motherboard please. The specs are detailed below;-

Processor = Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Retail

Motherboard = Gigabyte GA-965p-DS3 Rev 3.3 775

Memory = OCZ 2GB kit EL DDR2 PC2-6400 / 800

Power Supply = 500W PSU

Cooling = Akasa AK-960E Heatpipe Cooler
Arctic Cooling 12 System Fan
2 x Case Cooler Exhaust Fan

Case = Aria Gamer DarkStar 500w Case

Storage = 2 x 320GB Seagate Barracuda SATAII 16MB 5yr warranty Raid 0
1 x 500GB Seagate Barracuda SATA-2 16MB

My problem is, i've never overclocked before. I've spend the past 6 weeks reading many forums and advise, however i can't find the exact settings for my configuration. Im using the F11 bios.

I've read its possible to overclock the CPU from 2.4ghz to 3ghz without using water cooling or any advanced techniques. I'm just really struggerling.

If someone could please shed some light my way it would be very much appreciated.

Thank you :-)

Steve.

The most glaring problem is that your PSU sounds generic (not a known quality brand) which might cause a few problems (poor stability on rails, more likely to blow out under load etc).

Other than that i can't see why you'd be having difficulty - what is it exactly that you're struggling with? Do you just not know how to do it or ..?

Thanks for getting back to me. I just don't really know how to do it - well i've managed to over clock E6600 from stock of 2.4 to 2998 buy just changing the voltgage and fsb and ram from 2.0 to 2.5 - however people say you can get 3.4 to 3.8 by using stock cooling.

I think your right about my PSU - I should get a better one, however what else do I need to do in order to get upto 3.4 to 3.8? also I don't understand what the 4-5-5-15 is with my memory;-

Any help or assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Steve.

The 4-5-5-15 are the main memory latencies - something to do with the number of clock cycles between certain memory operations. Lower latencies usually give better performance, but don't worry about them too much. Loosening (increasing) the latencies can allow for a larger memory overclock.

It's best to keep the memory multiplier at 2.0 to get the max overclock from the memory. For example, if you have the CPU at 3.6GHz (400x9) the memory will run at at 800MHz (PC6400) if the RAM multiplier is set to 2.0 but runs at 1000MHz if the multiplier is running at 2.5.

3.6GHz is fairly easy to get to, just wack the FSB to 400MHz and tweak the voltages but only if the E6600 has a good core, many E6600s only go to 3.4GHz under normal conditions, this can be done using stock cooling but only if you can keep the voltages below 1.4V.

Don't bother with the memory latencies as Concentric suggested. They can be an arse to configure sometimes so best leave it on auto (the DS3s memory latency settings are hidden by default so chances are it's already on auto, but if you really want to play with them go to the main BIOS page and Hold CTRL and hit F1 to unhide the options which will be available under the M.I.T page)

Thanks for the response. I don't seem to be able to get more then 3.4 ghz out of her (well 3.330)

I've tweaked my Akasa AK-960E Heatpipe Cooler to run at 100%. My stock E6600 2.4 overclocked to 3.0ghz runs at a sweet 28C.

Now i've managed to tweak my CPU from 3.0 ghz to 3.330 ghz with 370fsb my temps are cool as well. LOVELY !!!!

Take a look at the pics :-) - can't seem to upload pics

What's stopping you going further d'you think? Have you upped the voltages yet?

Well i've done the following now ;-

Well infact im now running at 3384 its stable but upon running ORTHOS its fails on ram after 2 mins. This is the setting;-

I changed the system memory multiplier from 2.5 to 2 to allow a greater overclock. I've increased Vdimm from 0.2+ to 0.3+ which is the max the stick will run at 2.1v as the basic is 1.8 from what i've learnt I think. I've increased the CPU fsb from 370 to 376 now and the system runs fine but ORTHOS fails after 2 mins on the RAM. I've also increased the voltage to the other options;-

PCI-E OverVoltage Control 0.2+
FSB OverVoltage Control 0.2+
MCH OverVoltage Control 0.2+

Do I need to adjust the timings and or increase the above pci, fsb mch voltage?

The CPU voltage i've left alone at 1.475 (is this to high) ?

ORTHOS at full load (max testsing) runs at 54c
