do you think i could cut a peice of perspex or some kinda plastic to fit into a pci slot to make kinda shelf? dunno if its possible but was thinking of trying to make on of my res look like its floating! sounds random and i dont know if it would work or if it would damage my mother board!

so yeah! cut some plastic to fit a pci slot, attach it to a metal header plate thingy from any random old card, put res on it

possible?

thoughts please

I should imagine it's perfectly possible, except that i think the perspex is liable to static (correct me?) and therefore wouldn't be a great thing to be shoving into a PCI slot.
You'd probably be best just constructing some sort of support that attaches to the walls of the case rather than involving the motherboard.

you see i would never have thought about static charge! the reason i thought of pci slot was if i start sticking things to the case it may have effect the airflow within the case! but its definatly something to consider!

I'd be worried about the weight of the res and all the water. That could be a lot of pressure on the PCI slot if you don't provide additional support.

the vantec pci fan card was plastic, and slotted into the pci slot, but had a 4 pin molex to power the fans

was supported by the pci slot and the pci plate with the screw

but obviously was fairly light compared to a res full of water

Can be done but your best bet would be to let the case support the weight and maybe modify the water res to attach to the case via some screws. The best example would be when you hang a phone on the wall. If you can glue on or add some sort of perpex holder so you can slot the screws which would be in the case then it should look good! :)

Why not cut up and old PCI card like a modem to mount it? I'd advise some other kind of support as well though, because you could really feck your motherboard by putting all that weight on it. Perhaps try suspending it with some fishing line or something?

^ would work, but you need to put superglue on any knots in fishing line if you want them to hold.

Of course some fishing person would probably tell me I'm a fishing n00b if I can't tie a decent line knot.

I`ll resist that temptation rack

However you would not need superglue on a decent fishing knot.

a Tucked half blood knot will hold strong without slipping.
